Privacy Policy

Boko is a virtual pet app. We respect your privacy and collect as little data as possible. This policy explains what we collect, why, and how it’s handled.

Photos (Custom Cat Feature)

When you create a custom cat, your photo is sent to our server and forwarded to OpenAI’s API for analysis. The photo is used solely to extract colors and features for generating your pixel pet. We do not store your photos — they are processed in memory and discarded immediately after the response is returned.

All pet data (names, stats, settings) is stored locally on your device using UserDefaults and the app’s shared container. This data never leaves your device unless you enable iCloud Sync.

If you enable iCloud Sync, your pet data is stored in your private iCloud account using Apple’s CloudKit. This data is only accessible to you and is governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy. We cannot access your iCloud data.

If you enable notifications, we use Apple Push Notification service (APNs) to deliver reminders. A device token is sent to our server to schedule notifications. We do not associate this token with any personal information.

• OpenAI API — Used to analyze photos for the custom cat feature. Photos are sent to OpenAI for processing and are subject to OpenAI’s API Data Usage Policy. OpenAI does not use API inputs for training.
• Apple CloudKit — Used for optional iCloud sync, governed by Apple’s privacy policy.
• Apple APNs — Used for push notifications.

• We do not track you across apps or websites
• We do not collect analytics or usage data
• We do not sell or share any data with advertisers
• We do not use third-party analytics SDKs
• We do not require an account to use the app

Photos are processed in real-time and not stored. Push notification tokens are stored only while needed for scheduling and are not linked to any personal data. All pet data lives on your device (and your iCloud if you opt in).

Boko does not knowingly collect personal information from children. The app does not require account creation and stores data locally on the device.

You can delete all your data at any time from Settings → Reset All Data. If iCloud Sync is enabled, this also removes your cloud data. You can also delete the app to remove all local data.

We may update this policy. Changes will be reflected on this page with an updated effective date.
